Letters from Me, Day 15: Danielle Alleva, Cohoes, NY

Dear Danielle,

When I thought about writing letters to friends and family for 365 days, you immediately came to mind.

For the past year - or has it been two years? - we've been pen pals on Facebook. Through the magic of the internet, we've been able to keep in touch with the tap of a finger tip, the click of a keyboard.

I've treasured your notes, as we've navigated the sometimes stormy waters of life. As far apart as we are, I've always felt close to you, because we share our hearts. Our history has happened over the course of many happy occasions - parties, mostly, times when we're happiest. But even during my dimmest days, I've always known I can turn to you.

We met many years ago...at one of the infamous February Sux parties, held by our mutual friends. I met so many people at those parties. It was hard to keep everyone straight. But, I remembered you from the start.

It was love at first sight, because every time I saw you, you had a new toy or party favor.

I remember playing games, telling stories, laughing way too loud, inventing drinks (the Dirty Susan! Or did it already exist, and you just introduced me to it?), causing a ruckus, taking several hundred photographs and hugging goodbye at the end of the night at least 6 or 7 times for good measure. In a way, we grew up together, each year we saw each other, having new experiences under our belts, new stories to tell, new haircuts, new friends in tow.

As we got to know each other, in person and on Facebook, we started getting together more often. I'm so glad you've come to be a part of our twice yearly get togethers at my parents' house - summer picnic in August and gingerbread house building in the cooler months. You always manage to take the day to an even craftier place - bringing homemade favors and gifts or a new project for us and the kids to work on.

I've always admired your creative side.

While I have done a lot of arts and crafts in my day, I don't always give myself the time to do it now, but you somehow find the time to whip up some Pinterest-worthy creation for each holiday and sometimes - just because! You always give the best gifts that bring a smile to my face.

You've also quickly endeared yourself to my dear friend from childhood Tate. I knew when you two hit it off, that my life's work was complete. Two of my most creative, wacky, wonderful friends were now friends. I could rest easy.

Each time we hang out, I have fun.

No matter what's going on in or out, in your life, you always bring a ray of sunshine to the room.

Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for confiding in me, and for being my confidante. Thank you for all of the wonderful gifts and time you spend with us. Thank you for always lending a helping hand - whether it's with Leigha and Chloe or my parents at the end of the night. Thank you for your honesty and your candor. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you, Danielle, for being you.
